Key figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have converged in Abuja for a high-stakes press briefing amid deepening leadership crisis within the party.
Among those present at the venue on Thursday are former Senate President David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The gathering comes shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) took a decisive step by removing the names of Mark and Aregbesola from its official portal as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.
INEC also declared that it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is seeking to assume the position of national chairman through ongoing court proceedings.

In a further move aimed at stabilising the situation, the electoral body announced the suspension of recognition of all factions within the ADC, stating that it would not monitor any conventions or congresses organised by groups loyal to the various contending leaders.
According to INEC, the measures will remain in place pending the final determination of a substantive suit currently before the Federal High Court.
The presence of top political figures at the briefing underscores the gravity of the crisis, which has sparked confusion and uncertainty within the party’s ranks.
