The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Thursday presented Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and Family Welfare Support cheques to the families of 79 officers who died in the line of duty.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, made the presentation at the Command Headquarters in Garki II, Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
Sanusi said the gesture underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel and the families of fallen heroes.
He noted that the initiative was in line with the policy direction of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at prioritising officers’ welfare and boosting morale within the Force.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Commissioner conveyed his condolences and assured them of sustained institutional support.
He said the sacrifices of the deceased officers would not be forgotten, adding that the Force remains resolute in honouring their service to the nation.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the FCT and called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies through designated emergency lines.
The event formed part of the activities lined up for the 2026 National Police Day celebration.
