In a post on X, Melaye described recent political developments as troubling, accusing the APC of actions he said were aimed at weakening opposition forces. He insisted that such efforts would ultimately fail, as Nigerians would resist any attempt to undermine multiparty democracy.

His remarks come against the backdrop of the ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has drawn national attention in recent weeks.

Melaye pointed to political movements involving Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other influential figures, suggesting that unfolding events would expose what he described as the ruling party’s broader political strategy.

The controversy follows a recent decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend recognition of all factions within the ADC as legal disputes over the party’s leadership continue.

INEC also removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its records as national chairman and national secretary of the party. In addition, the commission stated it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is seeking to assume leadership through the courts.

The electoral body further announced that it would not monitor any congresses or conventions organised by rival factions until the Federal High Court delivers a final ruling on the matter.

Melaye’s comments have added to growing political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections, as stakeholders assess how the ADC crisis and INEC’s stance could influence alliances and party structures across the country.
