Three persons have tragically lost their lives in a devastating road accident at Ette Junction in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday.

The incident involved a Mack truck with registration number XS 761 LSD and a commercial tricycle, resulting in fatalities at the scene.

Reports indicate that the truck, in an attempt to overtake a parked vehicle belonging to the Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer Limited, collided with the tricycle, leading to the loss of three lives.

Though the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has yet to issue an official statement, the management of Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer Limited has expressed deep sadness over the tragedy.

In a statement released by the company’s spokesperson Aniekeme Finbarr, the firm extended heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.

The company confirmed the accident occurred on one of their operational routes and pledged to support the deceased’s families during this difficult time.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and stand by the families affected,” the statement said.

“We remain committed to upholding safety standards across our operational routes to prevent such incidents and promote safer transportation within our communities.”

Sterling Petrochemical reiterated its dedication to safety, outlining measures already in place, such as the distribution of reflectors to local motorcyclists, safety awareness campaigns, stricter speed checks for company trucks, and the deployment of trained flagmen in high-risk areas.

These measures aim to ensure safer transportation in the host community and reduce accidents on the road.

Authorities, including the Police, Joint Task Force (JTF), and other security agencies, have been deployed to manage the situation and investigate the incident.

They are also working to restore traffic flow in the area.

Further updates on the incident will be provided as more information becomes available.
