The Interim Caretaker Committee of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Imo State, has commended Rep. Ugochinyere Ikenga, the member representing Ideato North and ldeato South Federal Constituency, and his Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency counterpart, Rep. Matthew Nwogu, for officially defecting to the party.

The two House of Representatives members formally announced their move yesterday on the floor of the House.

The party said the historic defection reflects the deep yearnings and aspirations of the people of Imo State for a government that works for all and sundry, irrespective of political affiliation, senatorial zone, or background.

It stated that Rep. Ugochinyere and Rep. Nwogu have shown exemplary leadership by responding to the genuine demands of their constituents who have long desired a credible, inclusive, and development-driven political alternative.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s interim state Publicity Secretary, Cajetan Duke and made available to journalists in Owerri.

According to the statement, the decision by the two lawmakers to align with the APP, underscores a collective resolve to move away from the politics of exclusion, under-performance and absentee governance towards a more responsive and people-centered governance.

Duke said the development has not only emboldened the APP in Imo State but also reaffirms the party’s rising profile as the preferred platform for progressive-minded political players and citizens seeking genuine change.

“The entry of these two high-caliber lawmakers into our fold further strengthens the APP’s capacity to face the challenges of 2027 general elections.

“It is a clear demonstration of the confidence reposed in the vision and leadership of the Action Peoples Party under the current interim caretaker committee.

“We commend Rep. Ugochinyere and Rep. Nwogu for placing the interest of Imo people above personal or partisan considerations.

“Their wealth of legislative experience, intellectual depth, and dedication to service will undoubtedly add value to our party as we continue to build a formidable force for the progress of our state.

“We assure them of a warm welcome and full integration into the APP family.

“We extends a sincere invitation to other well-meaning leaders, stakeholders, and citizens of Imo State who share our vision of a united, prosperous, and better-governed Imo to join the Action Peoples Party,” Duke added.
