German authorities have reportedly rejected the posting of the Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, as Nigeria’s ambassador to the European nation.
His rejection, it was learnt, is related to his past public statements and conduct.
President Bola Tinubu had approved Fani-Kayode’s posting to Germany earlier in March.
However, German authorities are said to have declined the appointment shortly afterward, citing issues related to Fani-Kayode’s history of controversial remarks and perceived divisiveness.
Officials familiar with the matter revealed that the decision was based on what was described as “erratic behaviour” and a pattern of ethnically and religiously charged rhetoric.
These concerns, they noted, were deemed inconsistent with Germany’s diplomatic standards and expectations for foreign envoys.

The development highlights the often discreet yet critical process of diplomatic clearance, where host countries reserve the right to approve or reject ambassadorial nominees.
The rejection also comes amid renewed scrutiny of Fani-Kayode’s conduct.
The former aviation minister was recently involved in a reported verbal exchange with Richard Montgomery during a private Ramadan dinner in Abuja, hosted by Bashir Lado.
While details of the incident remain limited, insiders suggest it may have reinforced concerns among foreign diplomats.
Following Germany’s decision, senior officials in Abuja are reportedly considering alternative postings for Fani-Kayode, with South Africa mentioned as a possible option.
As of press time, Fani-Kayode has not publicly responded to the development, leaving uncertainty over his next political or diplomatic move.
