The Independent National Electoral Commission has recognised a faction of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party believed to be aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Details published on the electoral body’s official website show Abdulrahman Mohammed listed as the National Chairman of the party, a development that signals a new twist in the protracted leadership crisis within the PDP.
The recognition is expected to carry significant political implications, particularly in determining which faction holds institutional legitimacy in dealings with the electoral commission ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Observers note that INEC’s action could reshape internal power dynamics within the PDP, especially in areas such as candidate nomination, party administration and access to official platforms.
