Former Big Brother Naija housemate Angel Smith has tied the knot with her female partner, Tumininu, in a private ceremony held in the United States, drawing widespread reactions across social media.
The reality TV star confirmed the development on Saturday by sharing photos and videos from the wedding celebration, which comes months after reports that the couple had legally formalised their union at a civil registry in Texas in January 2026.
The ceremony, attended by a close circle of friends, featured an all-black theme, with guests dressed in coordinated outfits.
Clips circulating online showed Tumininu in a tailored suit, while Angel appeared in multiple bridal-inspired and black-themed looks.
Angel, who rose to prominence on Big Brother Naija: Shine Ya Eye in 2021, has since built a career as a writer and influencer.
Her relationship with Tumininu became public in late 2025. Before then, she was romantically linked to fellow reality star Soma Anyama, with their relationship ending in 2024.
The wedding has triggered a wave of mixed reactions online, reflecting Nigeria’s divided public opinion on same-sex relationships.
While many fans flooded comment sections with congratulatory messages, praising the couple’s openness and happiness, others criticised the union based on cultural and religious beliefs.
Some users described the ceremony as “bold” and “a reflection of living one’s truth,” with supporters applauding Angel for remaining unapologetic despite public scrutiny.
However, critics questioned the nature of the marriage, with particular attention drawn to Tumininu’s role as the groom during the ceremony.
Others argued that such unions contradict societal values in Nigeria.
Despite the backlash, Angel appeared unfazed, continuing to post moments from the celebration and previously dismissing critics by questioning whether they were invited to the event.

Same-sex marriages are not recognised in Nigeria under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, which criminalises such unions and related public expressions within the country.
However, the law does not apply in jurisdictions like the United States, where the couple’s wedding was held.
As images and videos from the ceremony continue to circulate, the marriage remains a trending topic online, further fueling conversations about culture, law, and personal freedom.
