The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reiterated its commitment to scaling up interventions across the Niger Delta, amid worsening economic conditions affecting households in the region.

This assurance was given by the Managing Director of the commission, Samuel Ogbuku, during the distribution of relief materials to residents of Omuma-Uzor community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.

Represented by the Director of Education, Health and Social Services, Jeremiah Oritsejolone, Ogbuku said the intervention reflects the agency’s response to the growing hardship faced by vulnerable populations.

“The NDDC remains committed to expanding interventions that empower individuals, strengthen livelihoods, and promote inclusive development,” he said, urging beneficiaries to utilise the items judiciously.

The commission acknowledged that rising living costs and limited access to basic necessities have intensified pressure on rural communities, necessitating targeted relief efforts.

Ogbuku added that the agency would continue implementing programmes designed to cushion the impact of economic strain and improve living conditions across the oil-rich region.

He also called on host communities to maintain the peace and cooperate with government agencies to ensure the effective execution of development initiatives, stressing that governance must be “people-centred, responsive, and compassionate.”

In a similar vein, the NDDC Director in Abia, Anderson Ukeh—represented by the Principal Manager, Ijeoma Offor, advised residents to remain law-abiding and ensure orderly distribution of the relief materials.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director of Education, Health and Social Services, Chioma Newlywed, urged unity among community members in sharing the items, while expressing appreciation for their support.

Chairman of Omuma-Uzor community, Felix Nwogu, commended the commission for responding to the community’s request, describing the intervention as timely.
