Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated the Iran national football team 2-1 in an international friendly played in Antalya on Friday, with Moses Simon and Jerome Akor Adams scoring to secure the victory.
At Corendon Airlines Park, the Super Eagles showed early attacking intent and composed defending, reflecting the growing influence of head coach Eric Chelle as he continues to shape the squad.
Nigeria opened scoring in the sixth minute through Moses Simon, who finished calmly after a well-timed through pass from Samuel Chukwueze. The goal marked Simon’s 96th appearance for the national team.
The Super Eagles dominated much of the first half, creating several chances but failing to extend their lead before the break.

After halftime, Chelle made tactical adjustments, bringing on debutant Emmanuel Fernandez for Semi Ajayi. Nigeria maintained pressure and doubled their advantage in the 51st minute when Ademola Lookman set up Jerome Akor Adams, who finished with precision.
Further changes saw Chibuike Nwaiwu make his debut after replacing Igoh Ogbu, as Nigeria continued to rotate the squad.
Iran responded in the second half with Mehdi Taremi scoring to reduce the deficit, setting up a tense finish. However, Nigeria held firm, with late substitutions including Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru helping to maintain control.
Frank Onyeka also featured as the Super Eagles closed out the match with discipline to secure the win.
The victory marks Nigeria’s second win over Iran, following their triumph at the 1998 Carlsberg Cup, while their last meeting at the 2014 FIFA World Cup ended in a goalless draw.
Nigeria will next face the Jordan national football team on March 31, as Chelle continues preparations ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
