The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has praised former United States mayor Mark Arnold and a group of US lawmakers for their recent comments on Nigeria, describing their interventions as timely and significant.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the pro-Biafra group expressed appreciation to Arnold and members of the US Congress for drawing international attention to issues concerning Nigeria’s security and political structure.

Mark Arnold had, in a recent Facebook post, alleged that the British government’s position on Biafra may be influenced by concerns over potential reparations linked to historical grievances. Separately, some US lawmakers, led by Congressman Moore, have raised concerns over alleged attacks on Christian communities in parts of Nigeria.

Reacting to these developments, IPOB said the statements have helped amplify its long-standing position on the need for global attention to the situation in Nigeria. The group also reiterated its demand for a referendum to determine the future of Biafra.

According to the statement, IPOB maintained that its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had consistently warned about insecurity across various regions of the country. The group further claimed that its regional security outfit has contributed to safety in the South-East, a claim that remains disputed by federal authorities.

IPOB insisted that a peaceful and internationally supervised referendum remains the only viable solution to its agitation, stressing that it would continue to pursue its objective through diplomatic means.

The group also called on its supporters and the international community to sustain engagement on the issue, urging global institutions to pay closer attention to developments in Nigeria.

The statement comes amid ongoing debates over security challenges and calls for political restructuring across different parts of the country.
