Governors, party leaders, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nigeria’s North-East geopolitical zone converged in Gombe on Wednesday for a zonal congress that produced a new leadership through consensus.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, alongside other party stalwarts from across the region.
At the congress, delegates unanimously adopted consensus candidates to steer the affairs of the party in the North-East for the next four years, a move party leaders described as a demonstration of unity and internal cohesion.
In his welcome address, Yobe State Governor and North-East APC Zonal Coordinator, Mai Mala Buni, described the region as a stronghold of the APC, noting that five of the six states in the zone are governed by the party.
“The North-East zone is by every standard a major stakeholder in the life of the APC. There is no zone more committed to the party, and we will continue to protect its interests at all times,” Buni said.
He added that the party’s growing national appeal, reflected in recent defections, positions it strongly ahead of the 2027 general elections. He called on stakeholders to close ranks and mobilize support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates.
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Simon Ngwan, who presided over the exercise, confirmed that the consensus arrangement was formally ratified through motions moved and seconded by key party leaders, including former Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan and House of Representatives Chief Whip Usman Bello Kumo.

The outgoing North-East APC National Vice Chairman, Mustapha Salihu, expressed gratitude to party members for their support during his tenure and pledged continued loyalty to the party.
In a statement following the congress, Governor Inuwa Yahaya congratulated the newly elected zonal executives, with special praise for Nitte Amangal and Lumbi Abubakar, citing their competence and dedication.
He emphasized the need for unity, inclusiveness, and strategic collaboration within the party, noting that these values are essential to consolidating APC’s gains and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
The newly elected zonal officials include Idris Shuaibu as National Vice Chairman, Baba Ali as Secretary, Tatfron Dauda as Legal Adviser, Nitte Amangal as Publicity Secretary, Joseph Mondale as Youth Leader, Haruna Tata representing persons with disabilities, Lumbi Abubakar as Women Leader, and Abubakar as Organising Secretary.
