A deadly attack has rocked Aso A community in Mararaba, a border town near Abuja, leaving several residents feared dead and many others injured in a wave of violence that has triggered panic and displacement.
The assault, which began in the early hours of Wednesday, is believed to have claimed at least six lives, although the exact casualty figure remains unclear as emergency response efforts continue.
Local sources say the crisis may have been sparked by an earlier confrontation between a farmer and a herder that reportedly led to the herder’s death. Witnesses allege that armed men later stormed the community in a reprisal attack, setting houses ablaze and attacking residents in a scene described as chaotic and terrifying.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that attempts by some locals to resist the attackers escalated the violence, leading to further casualties and destruction. Videos circulating online show burning homes and injured victims being rushed to nearby medical facilities as residents scramble for safety.

The incident has forced many residents to flee their homes, seeking refuge in safer parts of Abuja and neighbouring communities amid fears of renewed attacks.
Security operatives, including police and military personnel, have since been deployed to the area to restore order, but tension remains high as residents await further developments.
In a related development, a commercial motorcyclist transporting a police officer to the troubled area was reportedly ambushed and killed, underscoring the growing risks faced by both civilians and security personnel.
As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, leaving many questions unanswered while affected communities grapple with the aftermath of the violence.
