The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to diversifying the state’s economy, with a renewed focus on agriculture, tourism, and other non-oil sectors to strengthen internally generated revenue.
Speaking at the March projects delivery meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo, the governor stressed the importance of timely execution of projects and sustainable development across the state.
Reviewing his administration’s performance since 2023, Gov. Eno expressed satisfaction with progress made so far, highlighting 86 priority projects outside the core sectors of roads, healthcare, and education.
He called for improved collaboration among ministries, departments, and agencies to enhance productivity and service delivery.
As part of this effort, he directed the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to fast-track the completion and commissioning of youth friendly centres across the state.
Addressing the electricity situation, the governor noted that the current challenges stem from low national power generation.
He, however, assured residents that his administration is actively engaging key stakeholders to improve power supply and position the state to take control of its electricity market.
In a major boost to the agricultural sector, the governor approved N2.5 billion for the procurement of more than 620,000 palm seedlings.
The seedlings will be distributed to registered farmers across all 31 local government areas as part of efforts to increase agricultural productivity and drive economic growth.
He added that the initiative would be formally launched at a later date.
A total of 55 projects were reviewed during the meeting, with clear timelines set for their completion and commissioning.
These include major infrastructure and development projects such as the Ibom International Convention Centre, Ibom International Hotel, Itam Industrial Park, and the International Market in Ikot Ekpene.
