Eight people are feared dead in Niger State following a suspected terrorist attack on a key bridge along the Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, has raised serious security concerns for residents and traders in the area.
According to reports, a vehicle travelling between Nuku and Woro ran over an improvised explosive device, killing all seven passengers and the driver.
The blast also severely damaged a bridge connecting the communities of Luma, Babana, and Agwara, a crucial route for local commuters and traders, particularly those heading to the Babana border market, which holds every Monday.
Sources indicated that the explosive device was planted by suspected terrorists operating in the nearby forest areas.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the bridge had initially been targeted in the early hours of the day, and the vehicle later struck another device during routine travel along the route.

“On 23rd March, 2026, at about 6:30 am, a report revealed that earlier in the day, at around 2 am, suspected terrorists within the park forest used an explosive device to bomb a bridge along Luma Road, connecting Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities,” Abiodun said.
“The bridge was damaged by the hoodlums during security operations in the area. Monitoring continues while clearance operations are intensified.”
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as investigations continue into the attack.
