A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied reports that it intends to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, insisting the party will field its own candidate.
National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Jungudo Mohammed, told Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Monday that rumours suggesting support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) are baseless. “We are not supporting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general election. We will do everything to field our own candidate,” Mohammed said, urging Nigerians to allow the party time to conduct its primaries.

He described the allegations as attempts to discredit both the PDP and Minister Wike, stressing that time will clarify the party’s position. The remarks come despite Wike’s earlier statements in March 2026, where he expressed personal support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, highlighting his influence across party lines.
Mohammed emphasized Wike’s importance as a political figure, describing him as an asset to any party and affirming that his presence enhances the political landscape. “No political party will not wish to have Nyesom Wike in their fold,” he added.
The PDP faction’s clarification underscores growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, as speculation about cross-party alliances continues to circulate in the media.
