The Sokoto State Police Command has debunked widespread claims that about 150 suspected bandits drowned in a boat accident in the state.
The report, which circulated widely on Sunday, was initially shared by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
He alleged that an overloaded boat carrying bandits capsized in Sabon Gida, eastern Sokoto, leading to multiple deaths, with no survivors.
The claim quickly gained traction on social media, drawing reactions from prominent figures, including Shehu Sani, who likened the incident to the biblical account of Pharaoh’s army perishing in the sea.

However, the state police command refuted the report on Monday, describing it as false and misleading.
According to the police, rivers in the area are currently dry due to the season, making them non-navigable and ruling out the possibility of such an incident.
The command urged members of the public to be cautious and avoid spreading unverified information, especially on sensitive security matters, noting that misinformation could heighten tension amid ongoing efforts to address banditry in the region.
