The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday hosted top political figures in Kano, igniting fresh talks of a possible opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those who attended the Sallah gathering at his Miller Road residence were the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.
Others at the event included Isaac Idahosa, Bayo Lawal, Nejanatu Mohammed, among other associates and supporters.
It was gathered that Gov. Makinde and Sen. Dickson were earlier received at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by the Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdusalam before proceeding to Kwankwaso’s residence, where they held a closed-door meeting.
Speaking to a large crowd of supporters during the visit, Obi said he was in Kano to celebrate Sallah and honour Kwankwaso.

“I’m here to felicitate with you on the occasion of Sallah and to pay my respects to our leader,” he said.
Obi, however, emphasised the need to revive Kano’s industrial base, noting that industries in Bompai and Sharada, as well as institutions like the Bank of the North, must be restored to reposition the state economically.
Although the visit was presented as a Sallah homage, the high-profile gathering has further heightened speculation about ongoing consultations among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 polls.
