The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has backed the policy initiatives of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, particularly in education, youth empowerment and infrastructural development.

The emir stated this on Sunday during the traditional Sallah homage to the governor at the Kano State Government House, where he led members of the emirate council.

Sanusi said the emirate would continue to support the administration in its efforts to improve the living standards of the people, noting that the government’s policies were already yielding positive results.

He commended the governor for allocating about 30 per cent of the state’s budget to education, describing the move as a bold step towards repositioning the sector.

“We thank the governor for giving priority to education. The impact is evident in the improved performance of our students in NECO, JAMB and tertiary institutions,” he said.

The monarch urged residents, especially youths, to take advantage of the government’s education policies by returning to school, stressing that education remains critical to development.

“Anyone who has not completed tertiary education should go back and do so. If your wife is willing to pursue education, support her. Education comes before kingship,” he added.

Sanusi also dismissed insinuations surrounding his return to school, stating that the decision was meant to serve as encouragement to others.

“My return to school is not because of court matters, but to encourage others. A king with education attains greater dignity,” he said.

He further lauded the state government’s infrastructural development and urban renewal programmes, describing them as clear indications of commitment to the growth and modernisation of Kano State.

The emir, however, urged the government to sustain the tempo of development and called on residents to continue to pray for peace, unity and harmonious coexistence in the state and the country.

In his remarks, Gov. Yusuf, represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, expressed appreciation for the emir’s visit and support.

The governor said the Sallah homage reflects the rich cultural heritage and unity of the people, while assuring that the administration remains committed to the protection of lives and property.

“As we celebrate, we must continue to uphold the values of tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

Also, Gov. Yusuf urged parents and guardians to guide their children and wards to be law-abiding and responsible.

He added that the government had put in place adequate security measures and would continue to invest in infrastructure and social development for the benefit of the people.
