The South South Reawakening Group (SSRG) has appealed to residents of Bayelsa State and the wider Niger Delta to distance themselves from the newly introduced Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), an initiative linked to former Bayelsa governor and current senator, Seriake Dickson.
The group’s convener, Elder Joseph Ambakederimo, described the political movement as lacking direction and relevance within the region’s current political landscape.
In a statement released on Friday, Ambakederimo said the SSRG does not consider the NDC a credible platform, rejecting suggestions that it reflects the interests of the Ijaw people.
According to him, the party does not possess the political structure, ideology, or grassroots support required to gain traction in Bayelsa State or across the Niger Delta.
He further argued that the initiative appears to be driven by personal ambitions rather than a genuine commitment to regional development.
Ambakederimo also criticised what he termed a return to narrow, minority-based political platforms, warning that such approaches could undermine the progress achieved over the years.
He urged residents, particularly those in Bayelsa West Senatorial District, to remain cautious and not be swayed by what he described as misleading political narratives.
Expressing confidence in the political awareness of the people, he maintained that credible political figures in the state would be reluctant to associate with the project.
The SSRG emphasised the importance of aligning with established political structures at the national level, noting that influence and access to resources are often tied to participation in mainstream politics.
Ambakederimo added that continued political isolation could negatively affect development in the region.
He therefore called on Bayelsans and other Niger Deltans to support the group’s advocacy for political awareness and unity, aimed at protecting the region’s long-term interests.
