A viral video circulating on social media on Friday has sparked widespread outrage after allegedly showing several women being sexually assaulted during a local festival in Ozoro.
The footage reportedly captures groups of young men attacking women in public, forcibly removing their clothing and subjecting them to molestation. Eyewitnesses claim the incident occurred on Thursday, March 19, during an annual festival where women are allegedly expected to stay indoors, with those outside becoming targets of harassment. Some reports suggest that certain victims may have been raped, although these claims remain unverified.
Reacting to the disturbing development, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, described the incident as “alarming, disgusting and embarrassing.” He confirmed that Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola has ordered a full investigation into the case.
Edafe said, “This is alarming, disgusting and embarrassing. The CP has ordered an investigation into the incident. The command condemns this in totality; no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens.”
