Football icon Lionel Messi has reached a historic milestone, netting his 900th career goal during Inter Miami’s encounter with Nashville SC on Wednesday.
The landmark strike came early in the match at Geodis Park in Tennessee, just seven minutes into the game, helping Inter Miami secure victory in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16 tie.
The achievement places Messi among the most prolific goal scorers in football history, making him only the second player ever to reach the 900-goal mark at the highest level of the game.
Since joining Inter Miami CF in June 2023, the 38-year-old forward has continued to impress, scoring 81 goals in 92 appearances and playing a key role in the club’s success, including their triumphs in the Leagues Cup and MLS Cup.
Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, is a record eight-time Ballon d’Or winner. His extraordinary goal-scoring career spans club and international football over more than two decades.

He began his professional journey at FC Barcelona, where he made history as the club’s youngest-ever scorer at 17 years, 10 months, and seven days.
Messi announced himself to the football world in May 2005, when he came off the bench against Albacete Balompié and found the net shortly after entering the pitch. That goal marked the beginning of a remarkable 17-year spell with Barcelona.
During his time with the Catalan club, he scored 672 goals in 778 appearances and won numerous titles, including 10 La Liga championships, seven Copa del Rey trophies, and four UEFA Champions League titles.
He later joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, where he scored 32 goals in 75 appearances and formed a formidable attacking trio alongside Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé.
After the conclusion of his contract with PSG at the end of the 2022–23 season, Messi moved to Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, following Argentina’s triumph at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
On the international stage, Messi has made 196 appearances for Argentina, scoring 115 goals and further cementing his status as one of the greatest footballers in history.
A breakdown of his 900 goals highlights his remarkable versatility and consistency: 755 goals have come from his left foot, 111 from his right, and 30 via headers. He has also scored 112 penalties and 70 free kicks, with 724 goals coming from inside the box and 176 from outside.
Among the clubs he has scored the most goals against are Sevilla, Athletic Club, Atlético Madrid, Valencia, Real Madrid, and Levante, all of whom have struggled to contain his brilliance over the years.
