The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested six suspected vandals for allegedly tampering with railway infrastructure in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State.

State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Kano, stating that the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance by operatives of the corps.

According to him, the suspects were caught in the act of illegally removing and stealing railway sleepers, an offence he described as economic sabotage capable of endangering public safety and undermining national development.

He identified the suspects as Sulaiman Salisu, Musa Aliyu Harisu, Ishaq Alhassan, Isa Aminu, Sadiq Bala, and Mansur Idris, all said to be indigenes of Kaduna State.

Agalama said items recovered from the suspects included vandalised railway sleepers, 60 railway nuts, and tools used in carrying out the act.

The tools, he added, comprised a 50kg gas cylinder, a 5kg gas cylinder, and a 20-metre hose.

Preliminary investigations, according to the commandant, revealed that the suspects had been involved in similar acts with the intention of selling the materials for personal gain.

He reiterated that the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure remains a core mandate of the NSCDC, warning that acts of vandalism would not be tolerated.

“The command will ensure that all those found culpable are brought to justice,” he said.

Agalama further assured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
