The Kano State government has suspended some key durbar activities and imposed strict guidelines for the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain law and order.
Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the decision followed intelligence reports indicating plans by some individuals to disrupt peace during the festive period.
According to the statement, the government, under Governor Abba Yusuf, acted on recommendations from the State Security Council after consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders.
Waiya said while the government remains committed to preserving Kano’s rich cultural heritage, it would not compromise its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

“As part of the measures, the traditional Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended, while Hawan Nasarawa will be held in a modified format without horseback procession,” he stated.
He added that the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) would take place along designated routes, starting from Kofar Mata Eid praying ground through approved areas to Gidan Shettima, and terminating at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.
The statement noted that the durbar would be led by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
The commissioner said security agencies had been directed to intensify surveillance and enforce strict compliance with the new directives to forestall any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the celebrations.
He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperate fully with security personnel, warning against the spread of unverified information.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration, while extending goodwill messages to Muslims in the state.
