The United States Secret Service has announced a major recruitment exercise into its uniformed division, offering incentives of up to $75,000 to successful applicants as part of efforts to boost manpower for the protection of critical government facilities and national leaders.
The agency disclosed the development on Monday via a notice shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, outlining eligibility criteria, responsibilities and benefits for prospective recruits.
According to the notice, applicants must be citizens of the United States of America aged between 20 and 40, possess a valid driver’s licence, and be able to pass medical, background and security checks, including qualification for top secret clearance.
The agency explained that citizenship eligibility covers individuals born in the U.S., those with American parentage, or persons naturalised as citizens.
Officers in the uniformed division are tasked with securing key government installations, including the White House, the vice president’s residence at the United States Naval Observatory, and the United States Department of the Treasury Building.
They also provide support during protective operations involving the president, vice president and visiting foreign dignitaries.
The Secret Service added that personnel may be deployed to specialised units such as counter sniper teams, emergency response teams and K-9 units.
The recruitment process will include entrance examinations, interviews, background investigations and physical fitness assessments.
Successful candidates are expected to undergo 13 weeks of training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, followed by an additional 18 weeks of specialised instruction at the James J. Rowley Training Center.

The agency noted that the $75,000 incentive would be paid in instalments over four years, subject to completion of training and continued service.
It added that newly recruited officers would earn annual salaries ranging from $77,987 to $134,165, depending on experience and career progression.
The recruitment drive, according to the agency, forms part of broader efforts to strengthen security architecture around critical government infrastructure and top political office holders.
