The Nigerian Red Cross Society has elected a new set of executive members to lead the activities of its Delta State branch, with Prof. Edmund Atakpo emerging as the new Branch Chairman.
The election took place during the 27th Annual General Meeting of the Delta State branch, held on Saturday in Asaba. Delegates and members of the humanitarian organisation gathered to review the society’s activities and elect officials who will guide its operations in the state.
Prof. Atakpo, who currently serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at Delta State University Abraka, was elected to head the branch alongside several other officers who will serve in advisory and executive roles.
Other officials elected include Hon. Anthony Odhe as Vice Chairman, Chief Rose Ikpokpo as Finance and Property Adviser, Barr. Ifeoma Iloba as Legal Adviser, and Richard Anigboro as Programme Planning Adviser.
Also elected were Daniel Moriah as Disaster Management Adviser, Dr. Godwin Osakwe as Divisional Development Adviser, Amaechi Odili as Health and Care Adviser, Chief Vincent Omoko as Communications and Advocacy Adviser, and Friday Igba as Finance and Resource Mobilisation Adviser.
The newly elected leadership pledged to uphold the seven core principles that guide the global International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. These principles include humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality, which form the foundation of the organisation’s humanitarian mission.

According to the leadership, the election has placed experienced individuals in key positions, enabling the society to strengthen humanitarian interventions, disaster response efforts, and community support programmes across Delta State.
During the meeting, the newly elected Vice Chairman, Hon. Anthony Odhe, received the Delta State Branch “Vibrant Coordinator Award” in recognition of his outstanding service and leadership while serving as the Isoko North Divisional Coordinator of the organisation.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society reaffirmed its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and community support, expressing confidence that the new leadership will expand its programmes and strengthen its impact across communities in Delta State.
The outcome of the election was announced in a statement signed by the Branch Secretary, Charles Arinomor.
