Nigerian youth international Daniel Daga has been sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Norway after being convicted in a sexual assault case, a development that has sent shockwaves through the football community.

The 19-year-old midfielder was found guilty by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court of engaging in a sexual act without the consent of the other party. The ruling followed a legal process that examined the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred in Norway.

According to court records, the case was investigated by Norwegian authorities before being presented before the district court, where the judgment was eventually delivered. The court sentenced the Nigerian footballer to six months in prison after determining that the offence had been proven.

Daga had been widely regarded as one of the emerging talents in Nigerian football. His performances for the Nigeria U‑20 national football team had attracted attention from scouts and football observers both within Nigeria and internationally. Known for his energy in midfield and tactical awareness, the young player had been considered a promising prospect for the future of Nigerian football.

The conviction now raises serious questions about his professional career, as legal consequences and possible disciplinary measures from football authorities could affect his playing opportunities and future contracts.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the player’s representatives nor the Nigeria Football Federation has issued an official statement responding to the court’s decision or outlining the next steps regarding his status in the national team setup.

Details of the case were first reported by the football news platform Afrik‑Foot, which cited information from the court proceedings in Norway.

The development has sparked debate among football stakeholders and fans, with many awaiting further clarification from the player’s management and Nigerian football authorities.
