Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency carried out a sweeping operation across Kano State that led to the arrest of 56 suspected drug dealers after a three day raid on major drug joints within the state.

The operation, conducted under the agency’s ongoing “Operation Ramadan Mubarak,” targeted well known drug hotspots across the Kano metropolis and nearby communities as part of efforts to curb the spread of illicit drugs.

The crackdown took place between February 6 and 8, according to a statement released on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the NDLEA Kano Command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari.

Maigatari said the raids covered several locations including Kofar Mata, Fagge, Kasuwar Rimi, Medile, Badawa and Sabon Gari, areas where drug traffickers were believed to have established active distribution centres.

He explained that the coordinated operation forms part of a wider strategy by the NDLEA to dismantle drug trafficking networks and restore safety in communities affected by substance abuse and related crimes.

During the raids, NDLEA operatives recovered a range of illegal substances and drug materials. The exhibits include cannabis sativa, Exhol-5, diazepam and pregabalin alongside other controlled drugs and paraphernalia believed to be used for packaging and distribution.

Maigatari described the operation as a major disruption to drug trafficking activities within the state, adding that the agency would maintain sustained pressure on criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.

He also revealed that one of the suspects, 30 year old Yunusa Yasin from the Badawa area of Kano, was linked to a homicide allegedly committed about five years ago. The suspect has since been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The NDLEA command reiterated its determination to rid communities of illicit drugs in line with the enforcement agenda of the agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa.

The agency also called on residents to assist law enforcement by providing credible information on drug dealers and locations where illegal substances are stored or sold.
