The Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area in Delta State, Godwin Ogorugba, has announced a partnership with the Nigerian Forest Security Service to strengthen security operations and combat kidnapping, terrorism and other criminal activities within forested communities in the area.
Ogorugba disclosed the initiative during a meeting with officials of the Nigerian Forest Security Service led by the state commandant, Jonathan Obokohwemu, who paid a courtesy visit to the council headquarters to discuss collaborative security strategies.
The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to examine the growing security challenges facing rural communities, particularly in forest areas that have become vulnerable to kidnapping and other forms of criminal activity.
Speaking during the meeting, the council chairman stressed the importance of protecting the vast forest reserves within Isoko North, noting that the forests serve as vital ecological assets and economic resources for local communities.
He said the partnership with the Nigerian Forest Security Service would help strengthen surveillance and security operations in remote areas that are often difficult for conventional law enforcement agencies to monitor.
The NFSS state commandant explained that the organisation’s mandate includes protecting forest reserves, promoting biodiversity and preventing illegal activities such as kidnapping, banditry and environmental destruction.
According to him, the service is also committed to working with local authorities and community leaders to improve intelligence gathering and strengthen security within forest communities.
Both sides discussed several strategies aimed at improving safety in the region. These include joint patrols in vulnerable areas, public awareness campaigns to educate residents about security measures and initiatives to promote responsible forest management.

He added that creating a secure environment is necessary for economic growth and the overall well-being of residents in Isoko North.
The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to maintain regular consultations and develop concrete action plans to strengthen forest security and protect communities from criminal activities.
Local leaders expressed optimism that the collaboration would help restore confidence among residents while ensuring that forest resources in the area are preserved for future generations.
