Brazilian football star Neymar has been named in the preliminary squad for Brazil’s final international friendlies ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, signaling a possible return to the national team after an extended spell on the sidelines.
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti released an expanded list of players on March 9, 2026, ahead of friendly matches against the France national football team and the Croatia national football team scheduled later this month in the United States.
Neymar’s inclusion in the preliminary list follows a long absence from international duty due to injury problems, including thigh and knee issues that kept him out for much of the past season.
The forward has recently returned to action with Santos FC, where his performances have reportedly impressed Brazil’s coaching staff.

The upcoming matches, expected to be played in Boston and Orlando, will serve as Brazil’s final preparatory fixtures before the World Cup squad is finalized.
They are seen as a key opportunity for players, particularly those returning from injury, to demonstrate their readiness for the tournament.
Brazil’s technical team will closely evaluate Neymar’s fitness and match sharpness during the international window before announcing the final squad.
The decision will determine whether the 34-year-old forward will once again represent the Brazil national football team at football’s biggest global tournament.
