The United Arab Emirates has confirmed it intercepted a large-scale missile and drone attack launched by Iran amid escalating tensions involving the United States and Israel.
According to UAE authorities, air defense systems detected 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones.
Officials said the majority of the projectiles were destroyed before reaching populated areas, preventing what could have been significant casualties and infrastructure damage.
The strikes — described as Iran’s largest against Gulf nations in years — triggered loud explosions and shockwaves across several emirates, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Falling debris was reported in multiple locations.
Authorities confirmed that one civilian was killed and several others injured due to debris impacts resulting from intercepted missiles and drones.
While there has been no authoritative confirmation that missiles directly struck Sharjah, residents reported loud explosions and falling debris in and around the city, consistent with widespread air defense activity across the country.

In response to the attack, UAE authorities activated emergency protocols, temporarily closed parts of national airspace, and suspended flights.
Officials reiterated that the overall security situation remains under control as air defense systems continue to respond to threats.
The UAE Ministry of Defence condemned the Iranian strikes as a violation of the country’s sovereignty and international law, stressing that the nation retains the right to protect its territory and citizens.
The incident marks a significant escalation in the widening regional confrontation, raising concerns about further instability across the Gulf.
