The Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Innocent Esewezie, has pledged that his administration will initiate landmark projects to preserve and sustain the legacy of the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.
Esewezie made the commitment while addressing journalists at the burial ceremony of the former senator in Ibusa, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Oshimili North, Anioma nation, Delta North and Nigeria at large.
According to him, Sen. Nwaoboshi was a courageous and committed leader who devoted his political career to the service of his people.
“This is a big loss to the people of Oshimili North Local Government Area, to Anioma nation, to Delta North, and indeed Nigeria.
“Senator Nwaoboshi was a leader who stood firmly for his people. His legacy of service, courage and political commitment will continue to inspire us,” Esewezie said.
He assured that his administration would build on the developmental strides associated with the late lawmaker, stressing that efforts would be made to immortalize him through impactful, people-oriented projects.
“We will build on the good legacy he left behind. We will emulate the good works he did and ensure that his name remains etched in the history of our local government through meaningful projects that touch the lives of our people,” he added.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the member representing Oshimili North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Frank Esenwah, described Sen. Nwaoboshi as a political pillar whose influence shaped many careers within Delta North.
Esenwah said the late senator’s guidance and experience were invaluable to many public office holders in the district.
“We have lost a mentor, a leader and a father figure in politics. His guidance and experience were invaluable to many of us in public service.
“We will continue to uphold the ideals he stood for and ensure that his contributions to our constituency are never forgotten,” he stated.

In a separate tribute, former Secretary to the Delta State Government and Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Patrick Ukah, described the late senator as “an iroko in Delta politics.”
Ukah noted that Nwaoboshi dedicated his life to politics and distinguished himself through loyalty, consistency and unwavering support for allies.
“A man whose chosen profession was politics, and in that profession, he did everything you would expect a committed politician to do. Senator Peter Nwaoboshi lived a wonderful and impactful life,” he said.
He added that the large turnout at the burial ceremony underscored the deep respect and admiration the former senator commanded across political and social divides.
“Delta North has lost a great son. Delta State has lost a great leader. For us in the political family, we have lost an iroko tree. When he said, ‘I am supporting you,’ he meant it. He never wavered,” Ukah added.
The burial ceremony attracted prominent political leaders, traditional rulers, associates and community members, marking a solemn but celebratory farewell to one of Delta State’s most influential political figures.
