The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed reports alleging an increase the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)registration fees, describing the claims as false, misleading and entirely unfounded.

In a statement released on Thursday, the board’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, stated that JAMB’s approved charges have remained unchanged since 2019.

According to the board, the current fees are: Direct Entry (DE) – N5,700; UTME only (without mock) – N7,200; and UTME with mock – N8,700.

Benjamin explained that the total cost covers several components, including an application fee of N3,500, a reading text fee of N1,000, a CBT centre registration service charge of N700, a CBT centre UTME service charge of N1,500, bank charges of N500, and a CBT mock-UTME centre charge of N1,500 where applicable.

JAMB also recalled that in 2018, the federal government approved a reduction of the UTME application fee from N5,000 to N3,500, a policy that took effect in 2019.

The board noted that the fee structure has remained the same since then, despite rising operational costs.

It advised candidates, parents and guardians to obtain information only from its official platforms and publications.

“Any candidate who pays more than the approved fees should promptly report such centres with credible evidence to enable the board investigate and take disciplinary action against those found guilty of overcharging or engaging in unethical practices,” the statement read.

The board reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of candidates’ interests, warning that it would not tolerate misleading reports or unethical conduct by individuals or centres.

The clarification follows widespread claims on social media suggesting that registration fees had been increased, which the board has now firmly denied.
