The Coalition of Maritime Journalists Associations of Nigeria (COMJAN) has taken the maritime and blue economy sectors in the South-South by storm.
The group said its focus is to change the narrative on the underreporting of events in the maritime domain within the South-South region.
The body, which emerged from the coalition of maritime media associations, has elected an interim nine-man executive to run its affairs
Led by Prof. Ralph John as president, others include Chief Macdonald Aguibo (vice president), Chief Titus Eze (secretary), Deacon Golden Onyema (assistant secretary), Blaise Elumezie (financial secretary), Pastor Ifeanyi Nwaoha (treasurer), Kelechi Nwaucha (public relations officer), Mrs. Florence Pere (welfare secretary), and Jude Nzennaya (provost).
Speaking after the inauguration of the interim executive on Wednesday, COMJAN President, Prof. John, said the setting up of the association was the natural step towards developing maritime journalism and the maritime sector as a whole in the South-South and Nigeria.

John, who spoke on the sidelines of the national single window town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, said the COMJAN caters to the media and communication needs of stakeholders in the maritime industry.
“The new executive has just come up, and it is to harmonize our activities as maritime journalists.
“For instance, this national single window, we are to disseminate this information and do write-ups on it as we educate the people, and inform the stakeholders,” he said.
Expressing belief that the national single window will simplify operations in the sector, John noted that COMJAN will impact the maritime industry positively.
The association’s aims and objectives, he added, are to impact, disseminate, and distribute information that emanates from the maritime sector.
COMJAN’s Vice President, Chief Aguibo, said that “this association is here to stay and to do all that is needful for the industry.
“We will work for the improvement of the maritime sector, the customs, the ports, and the industry generally.
“We urge them to be patient and partner the association in the important task of developing the industry,” he said.
Aguibo urged his colleagues to adopt the mindset necessary for the association to achieve set goals, while calling for respect to constituted authority.
