A fire has reportedly gutted the old terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations costing billions of naira.
As at the time of this report, specific details about the incident were still unclear.
The affected terminal is part of the airport’s older infrastructure and is being upgraded to enhance facilities and improve the passenger experience.
Henry Agbebire, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), confirmed the situation, stating that fire officials are already on-site managing the incident.
“We are aware of the fire and are currently addressing it. A statement will be issued shortly,” he said.
He also mentioned that the agency’s emergency response team has been activated to minimize further damage.

“Our firefighting team is actively working to control the situation,” he noted.
Agbebire reassured the public that there have been no reported injuries from the fire.
“There have been no fatalities. More updates will follow,” he added.
Passengers and airport users are advised to remain calm as officials work to completely extinguish the fire and evaluate the damage to the facility.
