The All Progressives Congress has won the two Kano State House of Assembly seats contested in Saturday’s by-elections, in the state.
The polls, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, were held to fill vacancies in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies following the deaths of the former representatives.
In Kano Municipal, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj, declared the APC candidate, Aliyu Nabil Daneji, winner after he polled 7,484 votes.
Daneji defeated his closest rival, Shehu Ishaq Abdullahi of the Peoples Redemption Party, who secured 105 votes, while other contestants trailed behind.
Similarly, in Ungogo Constituency, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi, announced the APC candidate, Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad, as winner after scoring 8,975 votes.
His closest challenger, Shua’ibu Hashimu of the Action Democratic Party, polled 54 votes.
Prof. Abdullahi however commended the peaceful and smooth conduct of the electoral process.
