Troops from ‘Operation UDO KA’ have rescued five victims during a kidnapping incident along the 9th Mile area in Enugu, Enugu State

This was disclosed on the army’s 82 Division official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The statement said the distress call was received around 6:55 pm on Friday, February 20, 2026, reporting a suspected attack by IPOB/ESN on travelers heading to Anambra State.

It said troops swiftly mobilized to the location and effectively engaged the armed assailants with superior firepower and tactical maneuvers.

The rapid and well-coordinated response, the army added, forced the criminals to abandon their captives and flee.

As a result, five kidnapped individuals were rescued unharmed, and their vehicle was recovered intact.

Following the operation, the statement said, troops increased aggressive patrols and maintained efforts to dominate the area to prevent any regrouping, track down fleeing suspects, and restrict the actions of criminal elements.

“This proactive approach has bolstered public confidence, reassured travelers, and further diminished the operational capabilities of hostile groups in the region,” the army said.

The army, the statement said, remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives, securing vital communication routes, and dismantling all terrorist and criminal networks in the South East.

It encouraged the public to continue providing timely and reliable information to security agencies, as collective vigilance and cooperation are essential for achieving lasting peace, stability, and security in the region.
