The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has commended the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 ‘Operation Whirl Stroke’ (OPWS) for ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for corps members serving in Taraba State.
Nafiu gave the commendation at the weekend during a courtesy visit to the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Akaliro, at the brigade headquarters in Jalingo.
The NYSC director-general expressed gratitude for the brigade’s consistent support to the scheme, noting that the professionalism, discipline and dedication of its officers and soldiers have significantly contributed to maintaining stability in the state and shaping responsible corps members.
“I must commend and congratulate your officers for the fantastic job the brigade has been doing, which has brought positive changes to the security dynamics in Taraba State under your leadership,” Nafiu stated.

He described Brigadier General Akaliro as a seasoned and experienced officer, expressing optimism that his leadership would further strengthen the brigade’s operational effectiveness.
According to Nafiu, the relative peace and enabling environment currently enjoyed by corps members in Taraba State is a clear reflection of the brigade’s commitment to security.
Responding, Brigadier General Akaliro appreciated the NYSC director-general for the recognition, describing it as a privilege to host him at the brigade headquarters.
He praised Nafiu’s discipline and track record of excellence, expressing confidence that the NYSC is well positioned under his leadership.
Akaliro emphasized that the NYSC remains a vital national institution that promotes unity and cultural integration among Nigerian youths.
He also commended the dedication of the NYSC officials in Taraba State and appealed to the director-general to consider renovating the NYSC secretariat in the state to enhance operational efficiency.
