Kidnappers of a lecturer of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Prof. Ovaborhene Idamoyibo, have demanded N50 million as a ransom for his release.

Ovaborhene, who is the Head of Department, Music, was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday night, in Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State while on his way to Abraka from Sapele after a family meeting.

The abductors were said to have contacted the victim’s wife, Mrs Rosemary Idamoyibo, and gave her until Friday to pay the said ransom.

The Trumpet gathered that the kidnappers pursued the lecturer who tried to escape after one of the back tyres of his Highlander Jeep was shot.

The kidnappers also reportedly fired several gunshots in the air to scare away passers-by, while they made their way to the premises of Aganbi Memorial Baptist Church, EKu where the Professor ran into after he abandoned his vehicle.

Two other victims were also reportedly dragged into the kidnappers’ vehicle along with the lecturer before they sped off back to Sapele Eku road.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the abduction but gave no details.

Meanwhile, students of the department resorted to divine help, as they are now conducting prayers daily between 10 am and 12noon for Idamoyibo’s release.
