The Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Primary Health Development Agency, Dr. Emeka Ovuoba, has urged relevant authorities to strengthen support for the state Gender Based Violence team to intensify efforts in curbing rising cases of GBV.

Dr. Ovuoba made the call while declaring open a two -day workshop organised by the Gender Based Violence Department of the Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with a non governmental organisation Whisper To Humanity.

The event which took place in Abakalik attracted different non governmental organizations and other groups in the state.

He maintained that there has been a consistent and practical commitment to tackling the problem and commended the wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Mary Nwifuru and other GBV stakeholders in the state for their concerted efforts in tackling the ugly menace.

He also appealed to participants to take the workshop seriously and focus on workable solutions to GBV related cases

The Head, Gender Based Violence Department in the Ministry of Justice, Faithvin, Nwanchor, appreciated Whisper To Humanity for its contribution to the state’s response efforts.

She described the workshop as a timely wake up call adding that the two day session would involve an intensive review of strategies aimed at reducing GBV cases across the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Francis Nwifuru on Gender Based Violence, thanked the organisers and challenged all partners to increase their level of commitment assuring of the governor’s commitment to bring GBV to its barest minimum.

She noted that the fight against GBV is a collective one that requires all hands to be on deck and assured of the continued commitment and dedication of the present administration is supporting the elimination of GBV in the state.

She also stated that the state governor has provided shelter and equipped it to enable victims to be properly cared for, urging both genders to speak up at any point in time as no designed gender is exempted from being given succour from her office.

The leadership of Whisper To Humanity, led by Mary Okwuosa urged participants to remain bold and proactive in confronting what was described as an alarming trend in society.
