The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, is set to present 54 units of construction equipment to the 18 local government councils in the state, in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and accelerating infrastructure delivery.
The unveiling ceremony, scheduled for Thursday in Benin City, is expected to highlight the administration’s focus on practical governance, infrastructure renewal, and the empowerment of local government structures.
The equipment package includes graders, excavators, rollers, and other heavy-duty machinery intended to enhance road construction, rural access development, drainage rehabilitation, and other community-based projects.
By deploying the machines directly to local councils, the state government seeks to fast-track infrastructure development at the grassroots level while reducing bureaucratic delays in project execution.

According to officials, the intervention is designed to empower council leadership, stimulate economic activity in rural areas, and ensure that development initiatives reach communities across the state’s three senatorial districts.
The commissioning ceremony will be performed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and is expected to attract top government officials, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
The initiative marks one of the administration’s major steps toward decentralising infrastructure development and enhancing service delivery at the local government level.
