Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps has terminated the employment of 43 personnel in a decisive disciplinary crackdown aimed at reinforcing professionalism and restoring public confidence in the agency.
According to a statement signed by Assistant Corps Marshal and Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide, the dismissals followed serious breaches of conduct that contravened the FRSC’s standards. Of the total, 31 officers were dismissed for desertion, five for scandalous behaviour, and seven for misconduct during patrol duties.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described the action as part of the agency’s zero‑tolerance approach to indiscipline and ethical violations. He stressed that the FRSC badge represents honour and responsibility, and any action that undermines the agency’s integrity or compromises public safety will attract strict consequences.

“Desertion, particularly in a safety‑critical organisation charged with protecting millions of road users, is a grave breach of duty. Behaviours that erode public confidence and institutional integrity cannot be tolerated,” Mohammed said.
The Corps Marshal also assured Nigerians that the FRSC would strengthen internal monitoring and supervisory structures, while intensifying ethical and professional training across all regional commands. He urged road users to maintain trust in the FRSC’s commitment to safer highways and disciplined enforcement of road regulations.
Observers note that the move underscores the Corps’ resolve to maintain operational excellence and serve as a model for accountability among paramilitary and civil safety agencies in Nigeria. By removing officers whose conduct falls short of expectations, the FRSC signals its determination to prioritize the safety of road users above all.
