The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Prof. Abdullahi Usman, has stepped down from his role.
His resignation was confirmed on Tuesday, although the official reason has not yet been disclosed.
Reports are suggesting that this decision came after a petition from NAHCON board members to President Bola Tinubu, requesting his removal due to alleged misconduct.
Technical Assistant on Media to the former chairman, Ahmad Mu’azu, spoke to reporters and confirmed the resignation, noting that further details are still unclear.
Usman reportedly sent a brief message to staff on Monday night announcing his resignation, with a formal explanation anticipated later.
It has been reported that the NAHCON board had previously submitted a petition dated January 19, 2026, signed by 11 board members, expressing a lack of confidence in Usman.

The petition allegedly accused him of financial mismanagement, a lack of transparency, and approving expenditures and contracts without the board’s consent, reportedly exceeding the approved budget limits.
Before his resignation, Usman fulfilled his official duties by hosting Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq Al Rabiah, in Abuja last week.
Usman was appointed as NAHCON chairman by President Tinubu in 2024.
