The House of Representatives has constituted a bipartisan Conference Committee on the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill to reconcile areas of disagreement between versions passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.

The move, in line with legislative procedure, is aimed at fast-tracking the harmonisation of contentious provisions ahead of final passage.

The development was conveyed in an internal correspondence dated Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from the Clerk to the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, acting on the directive of the House leadership.

The memo noted that the Conference Committee is chaired by Rep. Adebayo Balogun and includes Reps. Fred Agbedi, Sada Soli, Ahmadu Jaha, Iduma Igariwey Enwo, Saidu Musa Abdullahi, and Dr. Zainab Gimba.

The committee is mandated to engage its Senate counterpart to resolve all areas of difference in the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill as passed separately by both chambers, paving the way for a unified version to be transmitted for final legislative action.

The House said the step underscores its determination to push forward electoral reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, enhancing credibility, and boosting public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
