Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has ordered the Nigeria Police to immediately accelerate investigations and prosecution over the killing of 24-year-old Patrick Peresuodei, a development that has triggered public anger and renewed calls for justice across the state.
Peresuodei, an indigene of Amassoma community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was allegedly assaulted to death following an online disagreement with one Bodmas Kemepadei. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, particularly among youths, who have demanded swift action against those responsible.
Speaking during the 181st State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, on Wednesday, Governor Diri said the state government intervened immediately after the incident was reported. He stressed that any act of murder is no longer a private dispute but a matter between the state and the perpetrators.
The governor disclosed that after receiving briefings from relevant officials, he directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to take over the case on behalf of the Bayelsa State Government to ensure diligent investigation and speedy prosecution.
While strongly condemning the killing, Diri appealed to residents of Amassoma and youths across the state to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that would help bring the culprits to justice. He assured the family of the deceased that the government would not shield anyone involved and that the law would take its full course.

Governor Diri also expressed condolences to families of victims involved in a fatal road accident last Friday while traveling to attend the burial of the late Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. He described the victims as patriotic citizens whose sacrifices would not be forgotten and assured their families of government support.
The governor further commended the Ewhrudjakpo family and the Ofoni community for their cooperation and orderly conduct throughout the burial activities.
In his words, the governor said the death of Patrick Peresuodei was a serious case of murder requiring urgent and thorough investigation, adding that justice must be swift to serve as a deterrent to others. He also lamented the loss of two Bayelsans in the burial-related road accident, describing the tragedy as painful for the entire state.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Ewhrudjakpo family and the Ofoni community, led by Dr. Oyowvin Osusu, later visited Governor Diri to express gratitude to the state government for its support and coordination during the burial of their son.
