The federal government has initiated the accreditation process for the appointment of five new permanent secretaries.
This announcement was made by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation on Tuesday, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval.
Director of Press at the office, Eno Olotu, said the process aims to address current and upcoming vacancies within the federal civil service.
The positions are available to qualified candidates from Adamawa, Bayelsa, Enugu, Kano, and Ogun States.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Esther Walson Jack, emphasized that the accreditation process is a vital step in shaping the future leadership of the federal civil service.
She instructed the accreditation committee members to perform their responsibilities with care and to strictly adhere to established guidelines, highlighting the importance of fairness, transparency, and merit throughout the process.
Chairman of the Accreditation Committee and Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Olumuyiwa Enitan, cautioned that any errors at this stage could undermine the credibility of the selection process.

He encouraged committee members to collaborate effectively, pay attention to details, and follow the approved framework to ensure a trustworthy outcome.
The criteria for appointing permanent secretaries are outlined in the Public Service Rules 2021.
Only current directors in the federal civil service are eligible for appointment, pending the president’s approval.
Permanent secretaries serve a four-year term, which may be renewed once, allowing for a maximum of eight years in office.
The selection process is based solely on merit while also adhering to the federal character principle.
