Residents of Okporojo Community in Oso Edda, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, were thrown into panic on Thursday, January 29, 2026, when unidentified armed men launched a violent attack, killing, abducting, and burning homes in the village. The assault reportedly began around 4:00 p.m., with assailants shooting sporadically and setting multiple houses ablaze.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos as villagers fled into nearby bushes to escape the attackers. Several homes were completely razed, while community sources claimed that at least four people were beheaded, with the perpetrators allegedly taking the severed heads. Many others sustained injuries, and an unspecified number remain missing. A video circulating on social media captured the devastation, showing homes engulfed in flames as residents cried out for urgent intervention from the Ebonyi State Government and security agencies.

Sources suggested the attack may be linked to a long-standing land dispute between Oso Edda and Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area, a disagreement that has previously sparked violent clashes, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property.
Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner for Internal Security, Chief Etta Ude, said security forces had been reinforced in the affected area to prevent further escalation. He reported that upon learning of the attack, he immediately contacted local council chairmen, the Army battalion, the police, and other security agencies. “As of now, everywhere is calm,” Ude said, calling for massive arrests to bring the perpetrators to justice. “Anyone found involved will be brought to book and made to face the law,” he added.
At the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement. Residents continue to demand sustained security deployment to restore lasting peace and prevent further attacks in the troubled community.
