A federal judge has ordered acting ICE director Todd Lyons to appear in court on Friday over allegations of defying court orders, threatening to hold him in contempt.
District Judge Patrick Schiltz wrote that Lyons must explain why ICE has failed to provide an immigration detainee with a bond hearing in the court-ordered timeframe of seven days.
Meanwhile, Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino and some of his agents will leave Minneapolis following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti on Saturday, according to the BBC’s US partner CBS News.
It follows a major backlash over how top federal officials, including Bovino and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, responded to the shooting.

Pretti, a 37-year-old US citizen, was shot dead during an altercation with Border Patrol in Minneapolis.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claims Pretti approached Border Patrol officers with a “semi-automatic handgun” and “reacted violently”, but videos examined by BBC Verify show Pretti was holding a phone as he filmed agents, and he was visibly not holding a gun.
