The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Blessing Abel, for allegedly possessing a firearm illegally, making a threat to life, and possession of suspected illicit substances.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the command said the suspect, a resident of Ikot Akpa Ntuen Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area, was apprehended following a report of a threat to life.
According to the statement, the complaint was lodged by one Emekpo, who reported that the suspect had threatened his life.
Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives mobilised to the area and arrested Abel.
A search conducted at the time of arrest reportedly led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

“The suspect is currently in police custody while an investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the firearm and the full extent of his activities.
“Upon completion of the investigation, he will be charged in court accordingly,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for crimes involving firearms and threats to public safety.
He assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
The police also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and detection efforts.
