Fear has gripped Ibrede and Igbuku communities in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State following renewed attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen, leaving residents injured and entire villages on edge.

The latest incident occurred along the Igbuku–Ibrede road, where members of the Okaroh family were reportedly ambushed while travelling on a motorcycle. The victims, identified as a son, daughter and their mother, sustained serious injuries during the attack, sparking outrage and renewed calls for urgent government intervention.

Honourable Reuben Okaroh, a former councillor in the area, confirmed the incident to The Pond News, describing it as a near-fatal encounter. He said his son and daughter suffered life-threatening injuries, while attributing their survival to divine intervention. Okaroh appealed directly to the Delta State Government and security agencies to immediately flush out armed herdsmen operating within the communities.

He warned that continued inaction could worsen the security situation, stressing that residents now live in constant fear. According to him, the attacks have made it almost impossible for farmers to access their farmlands or for travellers to move freely to neighbouring communities such as Ofagbe, Ashaka and other parts of Ndokwa East.

Reports from Igbuku further reveal that a similar herdsmen attack occurred in the area last week, heightening anxiety among locals. Community members now avoid their farms, fearing fresh assaults, as tension continues to rise.

The Trumpet Newspaper gathered that Ndokwa East communities, like many parts of Delta State, are increasingly vulnerable to unprovoked attacks blamed on armed herdsmen. Residents say the situation has disrupted daily life, threatened livelihoods and exposed a growing security gap in rural areas.

As fear spreads across the affected communities, residents are demanding swift and decisive action to restore peace, protect lives and prevent further bloodshed in Ndokwa East and beyond.
